Healthcare

• Invest in basic pharmaceutical and healthcare research, and retain government intellectual property rights to the results of such research
• Implement free basic federal healthcare (i.e. Medicare) for all citizens
  • Exclude cosmetic surgery and frivolous procedures
• Allow private options for elective and experimental procedures, which will spur innovation in new technologies and procedures
• Eliminate corporate healthcare mandates – shift burden to individual income and/or medicare taxes
• Require government to negotiate uniform drug costs with pharmaceutical firms
• Require government to negotiate medical equipment costs with manufacturers
• Increase availability of mental health and drug/alcohol rehabilitation workers and programs
• Grant every individual the right to control over their own body: no forced medical procedures of any kind (e.g. abortion, right to die, sterilization, genital mutilation, etc.)
• Tax private supplemental healthcare perquisites as income
